Blown-In vs. Batt Insulation: Which Is Right for a Central Valley Home?

Batt insulation comes in pre-cut rolls you lay between joists. Blown-in insulation is loose fill blown in with a machine. Both work — but in a real Central Valley attic, they perform very differently.

The problem with batts in an existing attic is coverage. Attics are full of obstructions — wiring, framing, HVAC, odd angles — and batts leave gaps and compression points wherever they don't fit perfectly. Every gap is a thermal hole.

Blown-in fiberglass flows into every joist bay and around obstructions, giving even, consistent coverage and a uniform R-value across the whole attic. That's why we use blown-in for virtually all attic top-ups and replacements here.

Batts still have their place — new construction, open walls, and certain floor applications where the cavity is clean and accessible. But for retrofitting an existing Fresno attic, blown-in almost always delivers better real-world performance for the money.
